10 Steps to successful ezine advertising.

September 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Ezine Advertisement is an excellent way to get your site/product/newsletter visability.
A.K.A TRAFFIC!

Ezines, when used correctly are completely targeted, which means the recipients have an interest in products/servivces like yours.
To advertise in an ezine you simply contact the list owner and but an ad spot, just like you would in any news paper.

In the next few posts I will present a step by step plan for profitable ezine
campaigns.

1) Choose the right market.
This means locate the appropriate ezines.
If you’re selling motorcycle gear, a gardening ezine may not be the best use of your money.
Google actualy isn’t a bad palce to start - just search your target
market keyword with the word “ezines”. For example write “motorcycle
ezines” in the search box. You will get thousands results about
motorcycle newsletters. The problem here is that you will need a lot
of time to distinguish the right ezines.

2) Pick a few that you are considering advertising in.
Start small (ezines with 15,000 or less subscribers).
Bigger lists cost more, and we want to test a few ads to see which works best before investing in those. The last thing you need is to pay big bucks for a lousy ad.

3) Take your short list of small “test run ezines” and subscribe to them.
Check out the quality - are they full of ads and have little content or do they have valuable information? This step is critical for screening the good ezines
for the worthless ones.

4) Check the cost of the ad.
Remember this is a test ad so be careful not to over pay. (this is good advice in all things! :))
Try not to pay over 100$ for an ad at first. (I personally would aim lower)
Remember we’re trying to test if the ezine and the ad is profitable.

5) Avoid submitting free or dirt cheap ads.
People don“t look at them at all.
Always go for Top sponsor ads, which are at the top of the
publication. Invest also to solo ads which are exclusive emails
sent to subscriber base without any other content. They are
extremely responsive.

6) Do not try to sell your product in your ad directly.
Drive them to your site for that. Make your copy compelling and full of benefits.

7) Track your ads.
How do you know which ads make money?
You track them! This is actualy pretty easy.
Google Adwrods does a phenomenal job with such things and the amount of data you can get back from your ads is unbelieveable.

Sign Up for my FREE “Mastering Google Analytics” eCourse if you’d like to learn how to do this.

8 ) Go big!
After you have found the profitable ezines resubmit your best ads
to the larger ezines.

9) Don’t be stupid with your copy.
Slightly outrageous claims can be a great tool - if you can come close to delivering on them. But avoid the obvious infomercial hype like “50,000$ in one week, No work at all!”
This will hurt your sales AND your credability.

10) Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Continue submitting your ads. Repetition is the key of
success. People need to see a message about 7 times before they buy. At the same time adjust your ads and change your copy,
not all of it, but just a couple of words each time. Some times
even one different word can skyrocket your ad effectiveness.

Have fun with it, and go make a million.
(when you do come back here and tell us all about it!)
